Condo 1-7 Stories
Once upon a time, not so many years ago, the only people living by and enjoying Naples' miles of white, sandy beaches, were the Caloosa Indians. Roger Gordon and Joe Wiggins arrived in Naples in the late 1860's and things began to change. These two pioneers names are commemorated by the Gordon River and Wiggins Pass.
Early promoters described the bay as "surpassing the bay in Naples, Italy." Thus the town became known as Naples.
In 1887 Walter N. Haldeman, owner of the Louisville Courier-Journal, and a group of wealthy Kentuckians, effectively purchased all of Naples. Haldeman and the Naples Company built a “T” shaped pier extending 600 feet into the Gulf of Mexico which allowed large ships to dock easily.
Next came the railroad and the Tamiami Trail - but those are tales for another day.
Subsequently the pier has been destroyed and rebuilt three times, but, today, you will find the Naples pier crowded with a thong of people fishing, strolling, sight-seeing and just plain relaxing and enjoying themselves.
Through the years Naples has grown and has become a favorite destination for those escaping the cold northern winters. They come to Naples to enjoy the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the abundant sunshine, and, of course, the world-class amenities of Naples.
No matter the lifestyle you prefer, from funky to cosmopolitan, you will find it in Naples. Naples prides itself on offering something for everyone – the Naples Philharmonic, abundant art galleries, the Sugden Community Theatre, chic shopping on Fifth Avenue or Third Street and fantastic dining both casual and gourmet

With almost 12 miles of lovely beaches framing theGulf of Mexico Naples offers the perfect beach to suit you personally. From Gordon Pass and Port Royal to Doctors Pass, Venitian Village to Clam Pass Park, Vanderbilt Beach and Delnor Wiggins State Recreation Area. Let us not forget BarefootBeachState Parkoff Bonita Beach Road. Almost 12 miles of lovely white shell beach.
Start your tour at Gordon Pass and head north. You will find your self surrounded by the multi-million dollar mansions of the “rich and famous” on your right side. While on your left side you view the incomparable Gulf of Mexico. Be sure to keep a sharp lookout for Dolphins as they leap majestically into the air. Of course, you will also be able to view a wide selection of boats- from fabulous yachts to small fishing boats.
As you walk the beach you will have an opportunity to do some world-class shelling. You will find a vast assortment of shells on the beach- especially if you are an early riser and beat the multitudes to the beach. Shells have spawned many cottage industries as the locals use the shells to make a wide assortment of products. In the local gift shops you can find picture frames inlaid with shells, lamp bases filled with shells, gorgeous mosaics that artisans have made using local shells- or, you can find just plain shells- whatever you desire.
You will come to the famous Naples Fishing Pier - Naples Pier the symbol of Naples. This is a favorite spot for locals to fish. Years ago great schools of mackerel would pass by the pier and saw fish, or maybe saw sharks, would roil the waters as they fed upon the mackerel. Alas, today both the sawfish and the saw shark are considered critically endangered and not to be seen around the pier. However, the pier is a favorite fishing spot, as well as a great place to congregate and enjoy the sights. For your convenience you will find a snack bar and restrooms at the pier.
From the end of the pier you have an excellent panoramic view of miles of beaches from Gordon Pass to the south all the way to Doctors Pass to the north.
As you walk along the beach you will notice that where the Avenues end (In Naples “streets” run north and south and “avenues” run east and west.) there are benches where you can sit and watch the Gulf. Be sure to try it- one of the most relaxing things you can do is just sit and watch the water. Maybe you will also see a gentleman sitting there and plaiting hats from palm fronds.
You will pass by Naples Beach Hotel which was originally built in the 1880’s and was located about a mile and a half south of its current location. It was completely rebuilt in 1970 and is in full operation featuring the oldest golf course in Naples, fantastic dining inside and outside and a beach bar.
This is a fantastic location for a romantic sunset wedding on the beach and a great many people take advantage of the opportunity for a never to be forgotten wedding.
As we continue on we come to LowdermilkPark. This delightful park offers snack bars, children’s playgrounds, bathrooms and outdoor showers. Most delightful though- especially after a long trek up the beach- is the cool shade offered by the beautiful trees. This park is the favorite for family outings as it offers plenty of active events such as volleyball, as well as ample parking and wonderful picnic tables.
A short distance after Lowdermilk Park we, unfortunately, have to make a detour around Doctors Pass. Take Mooring Line Dr. to Crayton Rd. turn left then turn left again onto Harbour Dr. and back to the beach.
On the bay we find the picturesque “Venetian Village”, with lovely homes built over the water, exquisite shopping and fine dining. This is a “must visit” spot for tourists and locals alike.
